The Romans ocupied the Iberan Peninsula in the century I b.C. 

They settle in Lisbon, that they called the city Olissip, 

This occupation was done initially for commerce purposes, but they stayed and made all the services they need:  The theatre, the thermae, factories for garum and others.

This ir one of the pools used for garum production. Garum is a luxury sauce made ​​from fish (in Lisbons case sardines were used, in the south of the country they used tuna fish) which was exports in amphorae to Rome and throughout the Empire
